8bit cry maker
■ What this is
A tool for making creature voices for 8-bit games.
It comes with 63 creatures, from a mouse to a dragon. Every one of them
has four sounds: Call, Attack, Hurt and Defeated. The sound is 8-bit,
using nothing but square waves, triangle waves and noise.
You do not need any knowledge of how sound is made.
Pick a creature, and if it is not quite what you had in mind, nudge a
slider. That is all.
The four sounds are all built from the same voice, so a monster sounds
like the same monster when it attacks, gets hit and goes down.
Try the voices over a playing ambience, then export them as WAV.
Fully offline, free for commercial use, and no credit required.
■ How to use it (3 steps)
1. Pick a creature Press one of the 63 presets and it plays straight away
2. Adjust Listen to its four actions, then nudge pitch, length,
grit and volume (optional)
3. Export The current sound as a WAV, or all four as a ZIP
You can try the browser version right here on this page.
If you plan to use it properly, take the downloadable version. It is the
same tool.
■ The 63 creatures included

Elephant / Monkey / Small bird / Owl / Parrot / Hawk / Snake / Frog /
Mosquito / Bee / Cricket / Crab / Seal / Dolphin / Whale /

FANTASY CREATURES (36)
Baby dragon / Drake / Eastern dragon / Goblin / Ogre / Orc / Minotaur /

Living armor / Slime / Pixie / Spirit / Phoenix / Unicorn / Mandrake /
Treant / Three-headed dog / Chimera / Sea monster / Mimic chest /
Giant / Golem / Robot soldier
The two human voices are not speech. They are the "text blip" sounds
that play while dialogue scrolls in an RPG.
Some fantasy creatures have no voice at all. A skeleton rattles, a golem
grinds, a living armor clangs, a mimic creaks open and bites.
■ Ambience
Eleven ambiences can play underneath while you try the voices:
Rain / Wind / Thunderstorm / River / Beach / Undersea / Forest /
Night insects / Campfire / Cave / Volcano
A frog in the rain, a hawk in the wind. You hear how the voice sits in a
scene before you put it in your game.
The ambience can also be exported on its own, as a seamless 10-second
loop.
■ Export
WAV ............... the sound you are hearing now
ZIP ............... all four sounds of the creature
Ambience WAV ...... a seamless 10-second loop
Every sound is saved as WAV (44.1 kHz, 16-bit, mono).
■ Rights to what you make
- Free for commercial and non-commercial use
- No credit required
- Games, videos, streams, apps: any use is fine
Every sound is produced by calculation.
No existing audio was learned from, sampled, or used as material.
So you never have to stop and wonder whether an asset is safe to ship.
That is the main reason this tool exists.
■ About AI
No AI is involved in generating the sounds.
The tool itself, however, was built with AI assistance. Saying so up front.
■ It does not talk to the internet
Everything runs inside your browser. Nothing is ever sent to a server.
What you make never leaves your machine, and nothing you do is logged.
The only thing it remembers is which language you picked.
The downloadable version works with no internet connection at all.
■ The same settings always give you the same sound
"I want that one I had a minute ago" is possible here.
There is no randomness. Given the same settings, you get the same sound
every time.
■ What people use it for
- Monster and enemy voices for an RPG
- Animal sounds for a farming or life sim
- Dialogue blips for character text
- Game jams, or anything else on a deadline
- Those moments when making one voice yourself is faster than searching
an asset library
■ English / 中文 / 日本語
Switch languages in the top-right corner.
■ What it cannot do (honestly)
- 8-bit sound only. It does not sound like a real recording
- Mono sound, not stereo
- You cannot build a creature from scratch. You pick one of the 63 and
adjust it
- The sound cannot be edited note by note or on the waveform
- The ambience and the voice are exported as separate files, not mixed
- It needs a screen about 1000 px wide. Not built for phones
This is not a do-everything sound editor.
It does a small number of things, so that you never have to stop and work
out what to do next.
■ Pricing
Everything works for free. There are no restrictions.
If you like it and feel like supporting the work, a contribution would
mean a great deal to me.
